But how often do we consider the humanitarian impact of our content? And why should we?

Tehmina Kaoosji

Independent Broadcast Journalist

Tehmina Kaoosji is an Independent Broadcast Journalist and Gender Activist. She currently hosts ‘Money Matters’, TV3 Malaysia’s flagship financial talk show.

Aisya Abdul Rahman

Legal Adviser, International Committee of the Red Cross

Aisya coordinates the IHL Advisory Unit at the ICRC Kuala Lumpur Regional Delegation. In this role, she engages and assists national authorities in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei to ratify, implement and disseminate IHL treaties and norms.


Before joining the ICRC, Aisya worked with human rights and rule of law committees, bodies and projects based in Malaysia, Scotland, Ukraine and Colombia. Through her 10-year experience, she has advised regional treaty and legislation committees, and co-written papers for law reforms to promote international normative standards.


She has also trained Malaysian judges, lawyers, and public officials on human rights law. Through her four-year practice at the Malaysian Bar, Aisya conducted 15 reported cases at Malaysia’s highest courts, including a national landmark workplace sexual harassment case. Aisya holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) in International Law from the University of Edinburgh.

Hilal Azmi

Head of Youth & Social Media Initiative at Astro AWANI.


Possessing over 8 years of experience in the field - he carries several roles such as journalist, publisher, editor and news reader for the organization. Known for his expertise in reporting from location, he brings with him vast set of exposure.

His active contribution towards the organisation’s goals and vision collectively led towards Astro AWANI being recognised as the most trusted news brand in the country (Reuters Digital News Report 2018, 2019, 2020). Among other recognitions gained include ‘Google Malaysia's most sought after news brand’ in 2018, and the Silver Award at the Asia Digital Media Awards 2018 (Best Social Media Involvement) for the hashtag #MalaysiaMemilih during the coverage of the 14th Malaysian General Election.

In the youth initiative side, Hilal is responsible for expanding the brands namely AWANI Jr (Junior) and AWANI Rangers which are designed to train and develop future journalists from the secondary and tertiary education sectors. Part of his scope includes traveling across the country to various schools and universities to educate budding journalists on the future of news.

As an experienced reporter journalist, Hilal’s significant coverages include the MH370 tragedy, the MAPIM (Malaysian Consultative Council for Islamic Organization) Humanitarian Mission in Syria, the Visit of the Malaysian Minister of Defense to Lebanon, the 14th Malaysian General Election (stationing for two months on location to be AWANI’s correspondent for the states of Kedah and Perlis), the 2014 Bah Kuning flood tragedy in Kelantan, and more.
